talk 3a

Although i was not able to watch the mooc talk due to computer issues so i still read through the slides.

The presentation seemed to focus more on a broader scale than just metaliteracy. Dr. Prinsloo seemed very focused on finding which external and internal forces effect how we make decisions. Prinsloo sites a very interesting quote "The act of learning to read and write start from a very comprehensive understanding of the act of reading the world", this got me thinking, is our ability to write and read information a higher form of our ability to process thoughts?.

Dr. Prinsloo than takes a look at what external and internal factors work on us as we make a decision, the field he defines as the space which has been shaped by various forces from which we make any decision. this field has changed drastically over the last 15 years, with the introduction of the internet people have access to information like never before.

The graphic of the metaliteracy circle really drove home this concept for me, the field is what defines the context that we think in. it would be interesting to know if we will ever be able to define the field accurately or if the factors that contribute to it are to many to count.

  1. To respond to your first question, I think it depends on the situation. Sometimes yes. But let's not discount the huge number of brilliant people in this world who have never had the opportunity to learn to read and write. And your last sentence rings very true. I think what is key is that we do try to define it and count the factors as a way to engage with the topic(s) and others who are part of the discussion. Doing something is better than doing nothing. Well, in this case at least. #metaliteracy
